Each behaves differently inside a shipping container. Particle size, moisture sensitivity, density and abrasiveness determine whether a standard woven liner is enough \u2014 or whether the cargo requires a sift-proof sealed liner, a heat-welded rail liner, or a full PE film moisture barrier.<\/p>\n<p>The two questions that decide most liner specifications are: how fine is the material, and how sensitive is it to moisture. Fine powders below roughly 100 mesh leak through ordinary sewn seams and create dust inside the container. Hygroscopic minerals such as kaolin, soda ash, cement and lime absorb moisture from container sweat and condensation, leading to caking, hardening, clumping, mold growth or weight changes. The right container liner converts a standard 20ft, 40ft or 40HQ box into a protected bulk transport unit.<\/p>\n<h2>Why the Wrong Liner Creates Problems for Mineral Cargo<\/h2>\n<p>Moisture damage is the leading cause of mineral cargo failures on long sea routes. When a container moves through different climates, temperature fluctuations cause water vapor to condense on the walls and roof. Without a liner, that moisture migrates into the cargo. Kaolin clay cakes and hardens. Cement and lime start to set. Soda ash clumps and loses free-flowing properties. The result is rejected shipments, demurrage costs, and insurance claims.<\/p>\n<p>Dust leakage is the second problem. Mineral powders such as alumina, talc, gypsum and pigment-grade titanium dioxide escape through stitched seams, zippers and door gaps. This creates loss, cross-contamination of the container, and port or workplace dust hazards. Sift-proof construction is not a marketing detail \u2014 it is the difference between a sealed shipment and a leaking one.<\/p>\n<p>Contamination is the third risk. A container that previously carried chemicals, fertilizer or non-food commodities can contaminate a high-purity mineral cargo. Dedicated liners with clean internal surfaces prevent contact with residues and make container turnaround faster.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, bagged loading is slow and expensive.
